Ok, I'll get to that. I know making mounting hardware is not necessarily that big of a deal, its not the only reason for choosing my method,  but I don't think it's harder/more expensive to just drill aluminum then to make an entire waterblock?

Well air coolers generally do not have large enough solid metal blocks right over the CPU to really make this a viable option. Also, you'd probably have to cut the block in half to make a channel for the water to flow through, and then reseal it, which could be more expensive than just grabbing to parts, making the channel and then sealing them from a couple of scrap pieces of metal.

See I was figuring on just running pipes filled with water. Drill appropriate size holes through block. Pressure fit pipes in. Attach a workable connector for the setup. Done.

 

Water cooled block. No need to for additional cuts or sketchy attempts at creating waterblock from scratch.

Yes, but cooling probably wouldn't be effective enough. If you watched part d, you'd see that Linus tells us that they have finned channels for better dissipation of the heat. It's possible I guess, but the pipes would probably kink somewhere in there if you tried to pressure fit them in as well.

I get what you are saying in regards to the finned channels. I would actually use the hot and cold method to hopefully get the piping in place, problem is of course aluminum is a good heat conductor that could lead to failures in fitting and you can't have too much difference between the holes and the piping otherwise could crack the block. But the heat sinks can be obtained cheaply and it could look nice enough if properly done.

I wouldn't worry too much about thermal performance. It wouldn't measure up to any dedicated water block with their micro channels, but I think if running multiple pipes, 3 to 4, it should keep the block cool enough, assuming the pump and rad work effectively, better than a stock air cooler at the very least. The block would be cool if the rest of the system works appropriately.

I highly doubt they'd be wanting to take the risk of something that could crack on them.

Thermal performance will allow it to run better than fine, better than a stock air cooler by a wide margin likely. So far I have only seen 3/4 parts available, the third part didn't discuss too much, but the plans so far, their blocks would have a significantly higher chance of failure. The fitment of the piping could crack the block if improperly sized, basically too small of a hole for the pipe to expand into as it heats up, there is room for error here, and I wouldnt have to worry about my water block falling apart and leaking.

Don't get me wrong my idea might be terrible in actual execution, but on paper it's good.

I think I would have left the copper tubing in a large coil, mounted it outside the case and have a large house fan blowing at it.
