What's the deal with amd graphics cards only showing series instead of the accurate name in any hardware monitoring program?

Dxdiag, speccy, HWMonitor all show R9 200 Series instead of R9 270X, R9 280 R9 290X etc.. like it should. This seems to be a trend with amd graphics cards, i don't think i have noticed this with nvidia.

That usually depends on the vendor. Sapphire is a good example of it.

He's asking why. He knows it's normal. I'm not exactly sure why myself

AMD is being lazy, so they decide they will only say what series the card is :P

HWinfo shows the full specs though, this is very dependent on the software/vendor you're using.

Chances are that it'll probably show geforce gtx 900 on Nvidia cards too.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

Again, it does not depend on the program you're using necessarily.

It depends on the vendor of the card.

My 280 shows up as a 280 across every program, being Furmark the exception (it shows as a 7950 which is technically correct).

To me it seems an issue of the program you're using.

In afterburner my 280x shows up correctly (though it may help that I have a MSI card)

Nope, still R9 200 Series even in afterburner.

Guess it depends on the vendor then.

It's not a problem for me personally but it's annoying when you're trying to help a person that doesn't know what kind of graphics card they have.

AMD is being lazy, so they decide they will only say what series the card is :P

Yet they show it on AMD Catalyst?

Sounds not lazy at all.

Same over at Nvidia.
