Can I use external DVD drive to install os

Yer this sounds fairly obvious but can I install windows 7 using an external DVD drive ??

The motherboard is the msi z87 g45 gaming

Do I need to activate something in the bios ??

Yes

You shouldn't need to activate anything in your bios. Just make sure your boot order is set to boot from the disk drive
