If you're using an Intel (letter)8(number) board, then you may need to update the BIOS before using a Haswell Refresh chip.

If you're using a non Haswell Refresh chip and/or you're using a (letter)9(number) board, then you'll be fine

it depends on which chipset you have, Z97 and H97 dont need bios update to work. while some z87 and h87 need bios update. i suggest you write your specs here
