I seem to be getting low when playing battlefield 4. I based my PC on Jackfrags' "How to build a PC 2014" video but I bought a R9 280 instead of 270x. I get around 40-45 FPS when playing on all high with out using mantel. Should I be getting this amount of frames or should I be getting more on these settings?

Depends on your CPU as well with BF4, not just the GPU..

For all we know you could be trying to run it on a dualcore with the 280x.

List your TOTAL system specs.

Pretty sure you should be at those FPS ranges at Ultra, not just at 'High', my 7950 did 50-60+fps easily using Ultra without MSAA.

/Mantle can actually make it worse (stuttering and such),... some people find its performance good, some people find it completely useless and does the opposite of what its meant to...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

What cpu do you have? I can get ~80+ fps average online with everything maxed out, except MSAA.

That's very normal for a 280.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/rkjR99They're my specs I normally use mantel for BF4 its just a lot of recording programs don't work with mantel so I have to use DirectX

Your cpu is shit, honestly. Anyway, turn off MSAA and turn on Mantle.

The built in recorder with the raptr app I think works with mantle.

I have GTX 760 (basicaly 280) and i can screenshot my settings for 99% of the time over 60fps if u want.

@sidskofa

Edit: if u have fx6300 then i think theres your problem. The game is depending on cpu as well and my i7 does great job and your fx6300 doesnt even comee close so my settings wouldnt help :/

So lower your settings and u will get better fps.

I recommend lowering shadows as they impact fps a lot in many games. But for best ingame setting i would find some guide on google or youtube.

You're an idiot and so is the guy that recommended this build. You spent a combine 140 pounds on the cpu and cooler. For about the same money, you could had gotten an i5 that would had gotten you better performance in pretty much everything.

Video talks about the FX 6300 strengths (6 cores, multithreaded games be good, even tho they hardly exist) and does not mention one flaw of the many it has...

Not a very informative video at all, "If its too good to be true, it usually is"

He said slightly faster single threaded performance for the i3 when in reality it's massively better single threaded performance. And his b-rolls also sucks.
