Windows 7 - Installation problem, device driver missing

Hello everyone,

I have a little problem that's annoying me since a few hours...

I changed my components on my PC, and want to install Windows on my PC. But, when installation begins, instead of showing the disk manager it shows an error and the driver loader...

The error is: "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing"

So I searched on several forums about this error, and it seams that it's an error you mostly get for a SATA driver missing... So I took the driver and put it on my USB drive used to install windows... I try to install those without solving the issue...

After I tried installing all drivers for the MoBo without solving it either... Now a point that may be worth taking into consideration is that I get another message when installing a driver:

"No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media."

Having even tried installing drivers that appear when unchecking the box: "Hide drivers that are not compatible with the hardware on this computer.". Again without succes, and some of those not installing. (Thought it was logic that some of these coudn't install so didn't try further)

Now I have no Desktop/Gaming PC until someone can help me...

If anyone got an idea, please say it, I'll try it

Thanks in advance

I would try get hold of another windows disk.

I'm assuming you're trying to Raid 0 your Vectors

Does it work on just 1 SSD without attempting to run them in raid?

Yep it's as you thought for the Raid and I have tried 2 different ISO files for my bootable USB stick...

I've been trying installing the drivers without the Raid... didn't work, having tried 3 copies of W7 Ultimate, and one of W7 Home premium

I don't know what to do...

I have now tried 5 different ISOs of W7 each one of these brought the same error, and nothing was solved...

I am about to install Ubuntu and see what I can do from there...

Does your computer have an optical drive. I have a feeling the issue is trying to load the OS off of a thumb drive. burn your ISO to disc and try again.

Well I don't... So it's kind of an issue...

I'll see if I can borrow a drive from some of my friends, try it that way and I'll tell you later how it went.

BIG UPDATE!!!

Ok my MoBo and Windows had a fight, and windows found THE weak-point of my MoBo...

Ok, the thing that I just tested, is, I have power on the two high speed link USB ports in the top, where you plug in Mouse and Keyboard... But Windows would only power these two on, so I've my flash drive into one of these, and now it just works...

So anyone experiencing the same thing as me, use the top 2 usb ports on the back of the MPower MoBo...

SO STUPID

Now I just have to delete 6 copies of W7 ISOs...

Thanks for the tips SubTract ;)

Ironic that putting an optical drive in would of fixed it, just not for the reasons I thought :P

i have the same problem as you described but for me is a bit harder cos i have a notebook without dvd, i have only 2 usb ports, one 2.0 and the other 3.0, the notebook is a Asus X501A.

this stupid problem is anoiying me, cos i´m stuck in windows 8 64 bits and i hate it a lot. i tried installing the SATA drivers as well but there is no way of making it work.

If USB is your problem, Windows 7 doesn't support USB 3.0 natively so you will have to try a USB hub on your USB 2 port. Otherwise just install a start button on windows 8. :)

Yep it seems Win 7 has some issue with USB 3, I agree with SubTract, try a USB hub, and else if you have an e-SATA port, try using an e-SATA device, it could be a solution...

Other than that, try out what I did:

- When you see the driver installation screen, use a usb flash drive that has a status led.

- The purpose of the led indicator, is for the next step

- Plug this new flash drive into the usb port where you have your windows flash drive

- Plug it into the other USB port as well, if it lights up on one of both ports, use it for your windows flash drive

- That's how it worked for me, so give it a try, and report back ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

ok, for who ever have this problem i found a solution to install windows 7, the first thing is that you need a iso image of any windows 7 and space enough to install 2 windows operating systems i used a 70Gb partiton, so once you have install windows 8 in your hard drive and dowloaded your ISO image, create a boot USB the open it and go to sources folder and look for a file called ei.cfg and delete it, this file prevents windows from install othe windows on top of the one you have all ready installed, so once you deleted it run setup.exe and follow the instructions at the point that you select the hard drive you can not format any hard drive from the windows setup, but you can prepare any from windows 8 with partition magic. ok ill go to the point make shure you have a copy in any of the hard drives of your drivers for the network and the USB, because for some reason it wont work. so this point is the most important, a copy of the USB drivers. and thats it you have windows 7 installed. if you install windows 7 in the same hard drive as windows 8 windows 8 will be in a folder call windows.dll and all you have to do is delete it and fragment your hard drive.

i hope this help to everyone that have the same problem as i had.
