I use Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects CS6.

I am renting the Adobe Suite as a student, and I can tell you that they do have a really powerful suite. That being said, if you need something lightweight, intuitive, and affordable, you can buy Vegas Movie Studio. It's even available on Steam. It's more for rendering and compositing footage than it is for creation, so if you need creative tools, you'll want to look at Adobe.
