Just wondering whats wrong with witcher 3 settings ?

This is 1080p:

Everything on low i get about 40-50 fps with crazy stuttering

Everything on ultra inc hairworks everyone ( shadows and distant on med) i get 30-40 fps with crazy stuttering

Then i lock the game to 30 and boom supersmooth gameplay

Medium settings and high does jack shit for performance for me ... well 5fps to go from ultra - high - medium  (medium and low are the same)

Specs: 4770k on stock , 8GB, 760 4GB @1280mhz core

Let's agree to disagree

turn off hairworks older generation nvidia gpus are also hit very hard with it on

i gain 3-4 fps by doing that .... but thats not the point

On LOW i get 40-50 AND crazy stutter to the point its unplayable, when i lock the game at 30 its gone stutter

i rather play the game on ultra and have a solid 30fps and NO stutter then an unplayable 40-50 ish on LOW

also the performance gain between low - medium - high - ultra is stupid small for me

Let's agree to disagree

Does the same for me so I just turned it up so I could get 40-50 frames still, and that's at near ultra settings.. I couldn't get it to hit 60 on low settings.

I've heard of this fixing it for some. Change the max buffered frames to 1 in nvidia control panel. It might not work, but it's worth a try.

I don't do signatures.

I noticed that beside Hairwork, Foliage Visibility Range is the hardest hitter on the FPS, I run a 970, turning foliage visibility range to Ultra and/or turning on hairwork dump me from ~70 to 50-58. Most likely that beside hairwork, anything that relates to rendering distance will destroy framerate, I played around with the settings and most other settings did not have that much impact (Shadow and Ambient Occlusion probably will have higher impact than other settings, I believe).

PS: I also noticed that non-Maxwell did take a hit, maybe a driver-downgrade to test (if you updated) or wait for a new driver. My friend runs a 770, I could've got something out of him... that is if he actually starts playing the game (I know, hard to believe he hasn't started the game despite having it installed for the past week, right?)

patch 1.03 and 1.04 did some good improvements .

I get now between 35 and 40 FPS with some dips towards 30 with pretty much everything maxed.

And the stuttering is gone due to windows borderless

These are my settings:

On a side note, if i use optimal settings i get 45 MAX

Now lets hope Nvidia brings out the kepler fix soon for some more fps juice!

Let's agree to disagree

I also did notice improvements after the patches, for your case... logically you should be getting quite better framerate with the Optimal setting.... I think, it just seems logical with all the benchmarks comparing the 970 and 760, my 970 can get dipped into around 55 while raining in the evening/night (when all those fire are waving around). Comparing your settings and mine, lowering it a bit should have kept you well into the 50. With even Nvidia confirming they're "trying" to fix this problem on older generations................ good thing this game is pretty long, right?

This makes it sound a little like it could be related to Vsync. And I've seen other threads about this game where it sounded like vsync could be a source of framerate problems.

Do you have it on in any of the cases you listed? Do you notice a difference in performance between fullscreen/windowed/borderless?
