When do new graphics cards release?

is it a yearly release? are we going to see the follow up to the gtx 970 in september?

Typically we'll see a new architecture every two years, with a re-badging of current cards every year. (We could "expect" re-badged 900 cards from NVIDIA later this year, though that's only a possibility.) That's actually what the 2xx cards were from AMD. The 280x was actually just a re-badged 7970, if I remember correctly.

Recent history has shown that its about a year between new lines of cards, give or take a couple of months. But new generations could be much longer. Nvidia tends to be about 2 years between each architecture.
