So about a week ago (song plays, just kidding) I dropped water on my GTX 970 and dried it up and everything but now it just is faulty and I need help fixing it somehow.

970 Strix Edition (ASUS)

What happens: I turn the power the computer on and the BIOS comes up for a second and if I try to press F2 or Del or something it doesn't work and then after it goes into like a black screen and says "No Signal Detected" and just stays that way.. the fans spin in the beginning and sometimes spin afterwards, I'm using a DVI connection. I was going to flash the card with NVFlash but I couldn't because the card wasn't detected in the PC so that didn't work.

Any tips? please help thanks.

I tried it on my cousins computer and my brothers, shows same thing for both also.

The LED on the GTX 970 shows white, normally shows green I believe if its working properly and red if the power connectors are not in.

People like you are the most useless idiots on this forum, stop posting and actually do something that's beneficial.

If you fried the card then you fried the card. It sounds like you did your due diligence by testing the card in other computers as well. Water damage or burnt circuitry aren't something DIY can really fix.

PS: the led shows white when the power delivery is where it should be

I forgot to mention, my cousin reflowed it from the back and front and it showed some new signs such as windows loading in but then black screen. He thinks it could be the capacitors being weak or something of the sort..

its dead, unless you just haven't connected the power cables up right or something like that. It worked before the water, now it doesn't. Assuming nothing has changed in the computer but you didn't say anything.

RMA it. Don't say anything about the water.....

I guess i'll try to do that, my cousin opened it up and didn't see any water residue or anything so I guess i'll try.

If that is the case then the card still has to be replaced unless you're familiar with finer details of soldering a GPU together. I would not recommend removing the cooler or any components and instead leave card as pristine as possible and hope that the retailer/manufacturer is willing to fulfill an RMA.

I killed a old 7950 with tea the card was running at the time. I cleaned up the stains and sold it to a friend for $20 after I got my money back from insurance from a credit card(hehe) anyway my friend RMA'd it and got one back they were not suspicious at all.

I have to agree with everyone else saying "RMA it".

Water on active electronics is a death sentence pretty much. Your strix's fans shouldn't even be spinning on start up, if they are, that's a fairly bad sign (at least to my knowledge).

question, how did you get water on it in the first place? I'm assuming you run on a test bench/open air type of rig for that to happen. Just curious.

If a case is not on a desk, and is below and the case also has top vents - its a recipe for disaster because eventually something will get knocked off the desk in the direction of the computer case.

What if it's a rig like mine that has a radiator in push/pull, with fans always at full blast, at the top?

Granted, my rig is behind my monitors, and not underneath my desk.

Not sure about the radiator or the fans. My guess is it would depend on how much fluid was involved. If you have water or drinks on your desk "Just don't be an idiot" and knock it over.

On of the reasons I would always want my rig at eye level. Also to show off how good it looks :D
