Depends. Sometimes it will break windows sometimes it wont. (it will most likely ask you to reactivate though) You are always best off to do a clean install of the OS but that is only needed if you start having problems. You should remove the old drivers if you can and install the new ones for the new board - Sound drivers, Lan ETC.

Bios update as stated above is not a bad idea, if your comfortable doing it.

Sysprep is also a decent alternative to a fresh install -- albeit not an ideal one.

Yea i expected to have to install the drivers for the new board. Just wasnt sure about removing the old drivers. Know where they are usually located or where to uninstall them from? Hopefully it wont break windows. If it does hopefully it at least is an easy and painless re install. I just did a clean install in December.

I will have to look into that for the next time.

Audio and LAN are often viewable in the default windows "unistall a program"

As for the rest of the drivers, I would go into safe mode and then uninstall the drivers by going to device manager.  Once you have them uninstalled, shut the computer down and install the new motherboard.  That would be your best bet of removing the old drivers.
