One of my friend ave a x79 motherboard with 8gb (two stick of 4) of ram, he want ro upgrade to 16gb, but I dont know what to tell him, add two 4gb stick or just change it to two 8gb stick.

Pros to add 8gb: less expensive

Cons to ass 8gb: max 32gb on the board

Pros to change to two stick of 8gb, : max of 64gb

Cons: more expensive

What chould I tell him?

Well, if he wants 16GB he should just get 2 more 4GB sticks. 16GB is usually enough for most things anyway.

He made video editing... So I what I think is one day 64gb will be necessary...

He dont want to made upgrade for 5-6 years after reaching the limit of his mb

Well, then he should sell his current RAM and buy new RAM.

I'm not sure about the value of that.
