Could give MotioninJoy a try.

Pinnacle game profiler is an alternative.

Don't need bluetooth, can use the charger cable in a USB port.

I had a milion problems getting the PS3 controller installed and ended up buying a wired 360 controller from Amazon to avoid having to deal with MotionJoy.

If that isn't an option, this helped me. I didn't have to disable signature drivers to get it to work but some people I've helped had to:

Also remember lots of games don't support the PS3 controller, so you have to tell MotionJoy to emulate the 360 controller, giving yet another reason to buy a 360 controller for use on the PC.

PS3 works well enough if you can get MotionJoy to stop being stupid. I had the driver error you had and it worked anyway, so try a game out and see what happens. If you push the "vibrate" function somewhere in the software, and if the controller vibrates, that means it'll probably work.

edit: I should mention that every time you unplug the PS3 controller from your PC, your PS3 will turn on, assuming its plugged in of course. That was very annoying when I had to wait 2 minutes for the stupid thing to let me turn it off again.

I needed a controller to play some heck and slash games in my Steam collection, I do have both the w/l 360 and PS3 controllers, but there were in my storeroom somewhere. The thought of rummaging thru my storeroom for them scared the BeJesus outta me, so I went and got a wired MS 360 controller and I must say I like it, Games simply work w/o the need to customize setting.....Darksiders and DmC are actually quite fun with a controller.
