Here's to hoping this is in the correct place...

Anyway, I recently bought a Raspberry Pi 2. This means I can retire my old model B and use it for a project I've been wanting to do for some time. I want to use my Raspberry Pi as a remote for my PC.

I can't justify having my PC on 24/7 but I can justify having a Pi on like that, so I'm planning to hook the Pi up to send a pulse on the GPIO pins to start the motherboard. I'm keeping the switch working as is. I plan on using a optocoupler, I'm looking at a diode based opto-isolator for switching speed and low current transfer (Really don't want to mess around with the current on the motherboard...).

Since my Pi is going to be inside my case, I'd like to power it off the PSU so I need a internal USB to USB connecter first (needing to check USB2.0 current). I also need my Pi to have internet which might be a problem until I can route fibre to my room and run wired.

So, are there any suggestions as to ways you think I could improve this or any feedback on extra things I should have my Pi do (Other than control the LEDs I want to buy)?

@Casperian You could just use Wake-On-LAN? (If you have an Ethernet cable into your PC that is). Wake On LAN: http://www.howtogeek.com/70374/how-to-geek-explains-what-is-wake-on-lan-and-how-do-i-enable-it/

But I guess doing that project would be cool anyway

Sadly, I'm running wireless.

Also the Pi way can shutdown the PC too, or force it off if necessary.
