Here's my problem I just recently bought a aune t1 mk2 amp/dac combo unit that uses usb to communicate audio. It works just fine with everything so far except that when playing a video with my VLC the audio stutters. I have read that this is a problem with VLC but I haven't found a fix for it yet.

VLC only seems to have a problem when it is playing videos instead of playing only audio files.

I also know that VLC must be the problem because there is no issue with media player classic.

Stuttering is random but some codecs are worse than others. mp4a seems to be the worst of what I have tried and FLAC seems better than the rest.

If anyone has a solution it would be much appreciated. VLC is my favorite player and I'm not enthusiastic about changing to a different media player.

Use WSAPI drivers if you can.

I guess I should mention that I'm running Windows and this seems much more directed at linux.

An update, I figured out that the problem is based on file types rather than codecs. The player has trouble with MKV files but is working fine with mp4 and avi, using the same codecs.

Starting from Vista, applications can bypass the directsound and gain access directly to the audio chip, via WASAPI or ASIO. Depending on what application you're using. Foobar2k can access via wasapi or asio plugin, and powerdvd14 got its own native wasapi option. Those are 2 that I know of.
