Hi,

So I have a SONY VPCEB3C5E laptop

Core i3 M 370 2.40GHz, 2 cores

architecture: HM55

ATI mobility Radeon HD 5650

8GB DDR3 1600mhz ram

link to spec list: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/VPCEB3C5E/specifications

Basically I've been upgrading my pc gradually and now I feel like I'm bottle-necked by my processor. I should've chosen a faster cpu to begin with. Now I'm thinking of upgrading my core i3 2.40ghz for a faster one but...

- I don't the logistics of upgrading a CPU

- what cpus i can upgrade to (new intel chip sets?)

Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.

I'll upload a picture of my motherboard shortly, I'm not sure of the model.

I expect your mobo is BGA. this means that your CPU can't be removed. if this isn't the case, then you'll need to buy the CPU and swap it out. only problem is that these CPUs can pretty much only be found on EBAY cause nobody sells them new.

Daily Driver:

Case: Red Prodigy CPU: i5 3570K @ 4.3 GHZ GPU: Powercolor PCS+ 290x @1100 mhz MOBO: Asus P8Z77-I CPU Cooler: NZXT x40 RAM: 8GB 2133mhz AMD Gamer series Storage: A 1TB WD Blue, a 500GB WD Blue, a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB

first of all you have been upgrading your pc?? but you should be able to upgrade your cpu as long as it is compatible with the chipset but i didnt find much info one the compatible cpus this is what i have been able to find:http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm55.html

oh and about the actual upgrading well... ehm its realy not that hard just take a part your laptop remove the old cpu and the the new one back in and rebuild it

The new Intel chipsets will not work with your laptop due to the platform change, you would have to go for a very old processor that runs on the HM55 chipset.

I agree but you also have to make sure that the wattage is the same as the old cpu or very close, and that your fan can keep the new cpu cool
