Ram Mismatching

I currently have 2x4GB G. Skill Ripjaws 1866 cas 9 timings. The prices in ddr3 has dropped dramatically and I am looking to do a system upgrade. I have found 16GB same make/model but 2133 MHZ for $120 with free shipping. I know that the speed/timings will slow down to the slower but will I be able to utilize all 24GB of ram effectively? What about dual channel? I tried to Google this and look in a few pages back of topics but nothing I found answered my question.

 

I am getting into some video editing/rendering and a little streaming so I wanted to get some extra ram to play with. I plan on upgrading to 32GB at one point but don't have the budget for the 4790k, 16GB and a 2nd G1 970.

Before you upgrade your frequency you should check what your CPU and your DIMM slots can handle for example my DIMM slots can handle 2400 but my APU can only handle 1866. So they could some price difference between the two frequencies.

As far as I can tell all cpus only officially support 1600mhz ram. I know my mobo is rated up to 3300oc. I know I will not anywhere near that extreme with ddr3 however. I will be using the 4790k with this ram however. Ive seen those handle faster ram.
