home network

I have a nas with freenas on it where I store all my data.

it is connected too my home network so i can reach it from everywhere in my house.

but I have most of it also on my laptop for when i'm on the move. 

but I always change things on my laptop and forget to change it on too my nas. 

so I was wondering if someone could help me managing it easier.

Unless I'm missing something, a NAS that's always on should be able to be accessed from any internet source.
