Hello LTT forum!
So recently i got this great deal for 30$

Board - Gigabyte GA-58x UD3R

CPU - i7 950 3.1Ghz Bloomfield Socket 1366 with stock cooler and never OC'd

RAM - 12Gb DDR3 1600 Kinston HyperX

PSU - CP 750w (Low budget i guess)

GPU - Nvidia Gtx 470 Reference

HDD - 1 TB Sata 2 5200 Rpm
Case HUGE *** OEM Case..

What should i do with this machine?

I thought if i upgraded the GPU and maybe a 120gb SSD it would be a great LAN PC or something..
What kind of options do you Guys think i have?

I don't want to spend more than 200$ on it..

Thanks in advance!

pretty fantastic deal

exactly what you said. a new GPU and a 120gb SSD would make a pretty great LAN PC.

if you don't know what to do with the 470, I might have some ideas  B)

Do you think buying an aftermarket CPU Cooler is worth it? Like the EVO 212 and maybe get a pretty good OC on it, it might have a hardtime keeping up on newer applications..

What GPU should i get? Will i stumple on some heavy bottlenecks?

You could probs get this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr92803gbd5t2dheoc+ a cheap SSD from crucial or such

and your cpu should be fine with a 280, the i7 950 is old but still decent so I wouldn't buy a aftermarket cooler

hyper212 is a pretty common cooler that lots of people like. you could probably overclock a decent amount. I'd try to pick up anything from an old 580 to a new 960. if you could find a used R9 290,290x, or 280x that'd be nice too. it all really depends on your budget

I don't think overclocking is necessary for a LAN rig though. cool for sure but not necessary if it's an early I7 quad

Thanks for the fast advice mate..

Do you know if the PCI-E Slots will bottleneck newer Cards? Since it only supports 2.0..

Right now i'm considering a Gtx 760 or Gtx 960 and a cheap 128 gb SSD.

not a concern at all. PCIe 2.0 at 8x isn't a significant issue yet. 16x is plenty of bandwidth.

760 is a pretty good card for 1080p. it can't quite max settings, but it's similar to my 660 ti(with one more memory channel) which is still a good card. naturally, 960 is even better.

PCI E 2 isn't a big problem at all, your fps will barely be affected by it. And a 960 is a decent choice, although personally I'd go for a 280X.
