There are a lot of reports of coil whine with the seasonic fan less power supply's. Do you think it is fine to buy one or should i go for another PSU? Some people say the seasonic is fine but i dunno. So what do you think? also if you think i should go with something else what would you reccomend as a silent PSU? (it dosen't have to be fanless).

When I do Google searches of Sea Sonic fanless power supplies I am seeing 4 out of 5 and 5 out of 5 star rated stuff so there must be some good fanless/silent psus out there from Sea Sonic.  My goodness they have a reputation of being a top of the line brand so I can't imagine you can't find what you are looking for from them.  As for recommendations you are not giving us any information about the pc you will be putting this in so hard to recommend anything.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I've never had any problems of any kind from any of my Seasonic PSUs, I don't expect this to change anytime... Ever.

That being said anytime you have something mass manufactured there will inevitably be samples that are fails, you can find examples from just about any PSU model. It's just luck of the draw, but eventually someone will get the short stick.

Fanless designs imo are more suited to small form factor devices: they're very typical in laptops, tablets, NUCs and some HTPC/Media centre models. That's because these are typically aimed to have low power draw, and thus lower heat generation. They usually almost always have issues with airflow and heat dissipation.

Desktops are a different beast, they can usually demand ungodly amounts of power with silly 4x gpu setups and Overclocked mice (ok I jest there I was a little: 'wtf?!' When I saw that topic). With this they need better cooling and airflow to perform optimally.

For example my Seasonic has a silent mode and won't spin up it's fan until higher temperatures. I can not hear it under idle or low loads and I wouldn't be able to hear it over my case/CPU/GPU fans in any case. Bear in mind I have Noctua fans that run at low rpm and a good airflow case with minimal components.

I'd recommend any PSU Seasonic makes as long as it matches your power draw needs, the same with Delta. You can expect the absolute highest quality units from these two manufacturers - so try to find the best deal you can.

There's a beast mode PSU by Delta on offer now if you can buy from newegg.com - Antec HCP 750 for $85.98 after a rebate.

I went on a power supply calculator program thing for my system and it says my system will run at about 370-400 watts this power supply (the seasonic one) is 520 watts is that fine?

You should be absolutely fine with that model, you've allowed yourself some headroom for the future and you shouldn't be running your PSU at 100% full tilt - something I wouldn't recommend when buying new PSUs.

You also have to consider that around the 700-800w model range the actual PSU units start to get physically bigger, and might not fit in your case.

You can get the EVGA G2 750W for less than the price of the Seasonic 520W fanless. I doubt you will ever hear the fan if it is left in eco mode.

Don't get me wrong, the Seasonic is a very good psu, but you are paying a bit more for the luxury of a fanless unit.
