I'm in the process of building my first machine and have been taking my time with research and waiting for sales on the specific parts I want.

I am almost at the point of assembly waiting on just a couple parts.

All I'm looking for here is some suggestions on what to do for an OS. I do hope to move to Windows 10 in the future.

Any suggestions or warnings would be great.

Thanks.

Will OEM and RETAIL versions restrictions and benefits transfer during the switch to Windows 10?

Yes. OEM means you have to provide your own support and keys are tied to the motherboard (unless the motherboard fails), and retail versions mean you get full Microsoft end-user support and the key is yours to re-use and tie to a new motherboard should you so decide. In practice though, OEM keys can be moved easily too.
