ads on LTT

holas peeps

lately i'm getting these ads on this forum, quite obtrusive

when i middle click to open in new tab, often it just starts redirecting to some ad websites, sometimes it doesn't

also getting ads on the right side of the forum, on the bottom and under the first post in thread

also what struck me as odd, is that as a contributor, i thought i wouldn't get any ads

 

all this with adblock off

if the adblock is on, i don't get any of this, which made me think it's ltts fault, not mine

also ran malwarebytes and it didn't find anything

no weird extensions installed on chrome

also no weird programs installed

and anything that was dodgy i uninstalled and reboot the pc and checked again, if something installed when the pc booted up again, that i didn't know and wanted to

 

so for now, i'm running adblock on linustechtips.com and it's fine, but i'd prefer not to

 

didn't check with AV coz i have none, my best AV is me and knowing what kind of things to avoid

but then again, my little bro uses this PC also, and god knows what he could've mess up

 

so also any recommendations for an AV, just to check for this issue would also be appreciated

If you use windows, you do have AV.

 

Control Panel > Windows Defender

 

Turn adblock off, and delete it. You can see an ad every now and again.

 

In MWB, turn "Search for Rootkits" on.

I just use adblock anyways, ads really annoy me and I can't afford to contribute to ltt every month (sorry linus senpai)

why would i delete adblock?

this is not the only page i visit and i sure don't want to look at ads on other ones

 

i turned rootkits on and still didn't find anything

 

also, it's not 1 ad here or there, it's on every page, under every 1st post in every thread

and also it often (1 out of 3 approx) redirects to ad sites when i open links in new tabs

Because you aren't making the content, so why should you get it for free?

 

You're one of a thousand people on here who do it, and I tell them all the same thing:

 

You have zero reason not to view an ad for free entertainment. But to skip out on them for it is pathetic, it's taking money out of people's wallet because you think you don't deserve them.

If you don't like ads, donate. But the people who do this stuff get paid through ads, and who are you to say no?

i donated to ltt

i don't use adblock on his youtube channel and i only found ltt so far, that's worth donating to

why should i have to watch ads on, for example, news site, if i can get the same news on TV w/o ads, or on TV that i already pay for?

also i have many reasons not to watch ads lol

waste of my time, almost always not even nearly related to my current needs, ...

 

also, if you're not gonna help here, pls refrain from posting and derailing my thread, after all, this is troubleshooting, not people judging

You have malware/browser Hijackers.
Run ADWCleaner, Adware Removal tool, Combofix (If you're on windows 8.1 it won't work but 8 and below works), and hitmanpro.

I help LTT out in other ways. I whitelist their youtube but not their site, and you have no reason to think you're some white knight because you spend 20 bucks every month.

Uh... what? First off, I did leave. Calm yourself and read first. I told them a few things to try, they asked why I said to do it, and I answered, not white knighting. It's true though, there's zero reason you need to use adblock on the normal ads. Who invited you to the debate?

one of your "Solutions" was to remove adblock because "You can see an ad every now and then". That's white knighting. 

Zero reason? How about this for a reason? Maybe he donated (he did), maybe he white lists the youtube channel (he does), maybe the ads are malicious and intrusive (they are) maybe you were being a dick (you kinda were). You called him pathetic. You called me pathetic.

Why do I block the ads? I buy the T-Shirts, I share and comment and like on every video (and watch the in video ads without skipping), I even go as far as contributing to the videos them selves. I THINK I deserve to block a few ads.

No, I got that bit, hence the rootkit scan bit, which picks it up in MWB. I had a similar issue.
