Hello,

Since this week I've been having issues with the HDD that stores all my media files. It's a seagate st2000dm001. The Drive will work fine for a little bit but randomly the write/read speeds will reduce to next to nothing, like it's going idle. Even small 30mb video files will just stop playing for a minute until the harddrive comes back. After that happens everything appears to be fine again.

I've tried checking the drive with SeaTools, CHKDSK and CrystalDiskInfo and none of them reported any issues. Tempatures are stable and under 40C at all times. I tried turning off the Hard Drive idling time in windows but this also didn't work.

Is there anything else I could try before declaring my drive faulty? I'm running out of options here.

Thanks in advance.

I would back up your data. Even though programs aren't reporting any errors, the drive may still be on its way out. Software isn't perfect.

Hey ryth,

I would also recommend backing up your data just to be of the safe side. Could you post a screenshot of your S.M.A.R.T. status?
Also when the performance drops, try checking your resource manager and see if anything is hitting 100%. Maybe something else is using your HDD or some other hardware part is not functioning properly and is bottlenecking the transfer speeds.

Managed to fix it by changing the sata ports on my motherboard. Not sure why that would've fixed it but it looks like it did.

The port may be faulty.
