Alright so my old thread went dead as no one wanted to post after my bump.

Basicly, I was given this build by a user (I am keeping the 32GB)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fKT6FT

I wanted to confirm with the community and I was told by some user that.

Advantage is that the xeon is a server processor it is ment to run 24/7 and is designed for server tasks. They usually consume less power and do not include integrated graphics. So what you technically could do is get a high grade processor for cheaper just because it is stripped down from bs no one on this forum uses. (At least i hope xD)

So my question now is that can someone recommend me a good xeox cpu and compatible motherboard that could handle 32GB DDR3?

whats wrong with the current cpu?

That pc alone seems solid enough to run a MC server

how many people you plan on hosting?

what kind of mods?

I guess nothing is wrong with the current cpu it's just I want it to be as little wattage as possible while still preforming amazingly, and the user stated that xeox is build to have the server run 24/7 (which is what I am planning to do) which is why I thought it would be a good choice to go xeon.

I am trying to future proof. Right now I have 10 people on and my userbase is expanding everyday.

The thing is I am REALLY heavy on plugins, also it won't just be used for a mc server, my ubuntu machine will also be running a php server and other stuff.

For only 10 people, or even 50, 8GB for the server is more than enough, you'll be fine with only getting 16GB.

And run the server off of an SSD, it will really help with startup and shutdown times.

My Tekkit Classic server is running on:

- Intel E3-1230 V2

- 32GB ECC DDR3 RAM (2GB allocated to my server, the rest is for other servers)

- Samsung 830 Pro SSD

- 1Gb/s Network

It can fully restart in about 20 seconds.

(I pay for it to be hosted, so it's on a server shared with quite a few other people's servers as well)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

True but like I said I am trying to future proof this server.

Also if I ever want to host another game I would be read.

My speed is 50Mbps.\

Like I said I just heard from that guy that xeox would be better for 24/7 servers.

Edit: also since it does not come with built in graphics it would be a little cheaper while still getting above performance no?

All Haswell Refresh cpu are built with exactly the same materials and processes. The only thing that is different is some of the circuitry. Xeon are more appropriate for servers but for the usage described I suspect an i3 like Intel Core i3-4360 would be more than enough. Any cpu can run 24x7 for many years provided they are properly powered and cooled. There are Xeon models with on chip gpu: Intel Xeon E3-1226 V3, Intel Xeon E3-1246 V3 and others.

When buying 32GB of memory for an LGA1150 motherboard, get a 4x8GB kit. Buying two 2x8GB kits might lead to single channel operation. But 32GB seems to be a waste. Eight or 16GB with an ssd would be more than enough performance.

There is no such thing as future proofing. It is a waste of resources to configure a system based on some unknown possible use some time in the future. If an anticipated use is more than 2 years out, don't bother trying to anticipate the hardware needed. In 2 years, the requirements will have changed as will the hardware to meet those requirements.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

The build looks fine to me...i will admit its a bit big but its not that overpriced by the look of it(600 bucks for xeon server seems good to me then again i have a taste for xeons). However maybe my biases are interfering
