hey all,

My cousin is dropping in his computer to me tommorow for me to install a Hyper 212 evo and overclock his q9550 cpu to around 3.6Ghz would be Ideal he said. So i was researching a bit and found that you need to put the FSB to 400 and then something to 8 and that multiplies to 3.2 or whatever so i would need to Change FSB and something to 9 to get 3.6 correct? and then I have to change voltage up by 1 each time until it is stable with a CPU stresser software and also monitor temps ect. But is that all I need to do? not to familiar with the type of CPU really and just wanted someone to give me a correct low down of what to do to get him to 4.6Ghz without killing it lol. His mobo is a Gigabyte EG41MF-US2H. Thanks :)

CPU: FX8350  GPU:  Sapphire radeon r9 290x Tri-X  Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P  RAM:  Corsair Vengence 1866mhz 8GB  PSU: Corsair CX750M

HDD:  Western Digital Caviar blue 1TB  SSD:  120Gb Samsung 850 Evo

The 212 Evo is good for mild overclocks. Not 2.83GHz > 4.6GHz.

what would i go for then? :o

You would need something like a phase change case to achieve the best possible overclock

CPU: Intel i5 4690k @ 4.3 GHz       GPU: MSI GTX 980                      Cooling: be quiet! Pure Rock                     OS: Windows 7            Monitor: BenQ XL2411Z

Motherboard: AsRock Z97 PRO4   PSU: Corsair 600W CX600M       Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate   SSD: Intel 120GB 520   Headset: HyperX Cloud II

RAM: 12GB Crucial Ballistix            Case: Corsair 750D                       Mouse: Logitech G502                         HDD: Seagate 1TB        Speakers: Audioengine A5+

Somewhere in the mid 3.xs, probably. New cooler or not, the chip is older and still kicks off a fair bit of heat when overclocked.

3.4?

You won't get 4.6GHz out of a Q9550.

3.4 maybe?

that motherboard wouldn't even allow you to get to 4.6ghz never mind the chip. 3.6ghz is more realistic, even then it depends of the cpu and the northbridge cooling

yes 4.6 is redicolous for that chip i know it was just a typing error 3.6 yes im just used to saying 4 with the 8350 :o but what changes would i have to make to get it perfect 3.6? :)

you typed it twice. you just need to change the fsb, cpu voltage, fsb voltage, nb voltage and ram divider.

I would try 3.4/3.6 but it really depends if your PSU can handle it.

My PC/ CPU: Intel i5-4690k with ColerMaster Hyper Evo 212 / Motherboard: Asus Z97-AR GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti / OS: Windows8.1 / RAM: G.Skill Ares Series 2x4 1600Mhz / Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM Optical Drive: ASUS 24B1ST / Network: TP-Link WN881ND /////////////////////////// If I fail to respond to your questions, please message me! So do i change fsb to 400? and then what do i change to 9 to multiply to get 3.6? :o

well no, because you will have to go up in step of 10-20mhz on the fsb at a time. you need to change the multiplier as high as it will go.
