Yesterday my frontpanel audio stopped working. It was after I went to a friends place so I thought it might have been a loose cable. I tried replugging the audio cables in my motherboard and it still doesn't work. My computer can still detect that I plug in a headset, but no sound is produced. My headset works perfectly fine using the jackstick on the back of my pc. The reason I need to use my frontpanel is because it can detect the impedance of my headset and adjust accordingly.

Any suggestion what to do?

you can rerout the cable from the front to the jack port on the back for a quick and dirty fix, if you have a too short cale for that i reccommend a driver update

Thanks, but I rather fix this properly. I've tried to update my driver, but every time I run the setup this comes: http://imgur.com/Bh1M2iy

I've tried to wait a few minutes, but nothing is happening, I've run it as administrator as well. I downloaded the driver from Asus webpage.

Check the audio settings in the bios make sure they haven't switched between HDaudio and FP audio, double check the driver software too and check what output mode its using.

Finally check the windows playback devices make sure the headset is listed there, enabled, and that windows says its outputting sound there.

I've checked my bios settings and it was set to HD audio as usual. The driver software is set to HD audio as well. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by output mode, but its set to output into my headphones and not digital or something like that. The headphone is listed under the windows playback devices and windows registers a sound output.

Are you sure the Hd Audio header on your mobo is fine? I would check for bent wires, etc.

Checking if it was set to digital is what I meant.

You said the front panel adjusts based on the impedance of your headset, are you able to see the changes, if this is done automatically then this could be where the failure is?

You can adjust it yourself and no sound is produced no matter what impedance I choose

Is there anyway to check under the panel, where the jack is, and check for a wire that may have become unsoldered? Just a thought.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.
