So I turned an old computer into an HTPC. I need to know what os setup I should use.

I want to run steam in-home streaming, youtube, netflix, as well as some minecraft  :P

 

Specs:

 

Core 2 Duo e4500

8gb DDR2 RAM

500gb Seagate Barracuda hard drive

Zotac Nvidia GT 740 2gb

Steam OS maybe? You can access youtube and netfilx trough that, and streaming through steam no doubt. However, if you want something more solid, go with windows. I like 7, but that is my preference

I was thinking windows 8 with maybe a logitech k400.

 

The metro start menu seems like it would look good on a big tv

Go right ahead then. Steam os is a little tricky to set up anyway, so going with Windows makes quite a bit of sense. Just make sure you have the version with windows media center, because it is not included with every copy as it is with 7
