Classic WOW

I was looking at Lukes Twitch VODs tonight and I saw one with the title of Classic WOW and I was interested to learn more about what it is like to play on these unofficial servers that offer Vanilla WOW game play (he stopped playing because its apparently against Twitch's terms of agreement. And with a quick google search I found a few different servers/ websites and I was hoping that if some people are playing on one of these if I could get pointed to a good one and/or maybe I could play with you guys? No idea if we can talk about that here, but I have played on Feenix's WoW's Emerald Dream server. It's kind of the only one I recommend, since there's no donation rewards whatsoever. Vanilla WoW was some of the best times I've ever had in a PC game, excluding BF1942. Was an unbelievable experience.

Thanks for the reply, I hope we can talk about this here but I guess its a bit of a gray area like emulators. I was looking in to vanillagaming.org because it was on of the top results on google but now I will look in to that one. WoW was the second game I got really in to on the PC, I started with CS then got in to WoW and I had some great times.

honest opinion i would not recommend playing on private servers because of 1 thing most raids and dungeons are broken to oblivion if i remember correctly 1 private server got 1 vanilla raid working and it was MC which is not even hard to get working so i dont think its worth doing but if you want the old school feel then go for it

@darwin006 apparently Kronos WoW is also a good one. Seems to be pretty devoted programmers on it getting it pretty stable and blizzlike as possible. only donation rewards are cosmetic (mounts, tabards etc)

Feenixs ED server is a good one, but I am a bit concerned that Naxx is going to be released in the next month or two and it will be cleared quickly (the top guilds on the server cleared AQ 40 in 2 nights) and the server with die. That being said I found a server called Nostalrius that seems just like ED but it was just started in late February this year. @TechSam from what I have read and seen in game on the ED server there are very few bugs and none of them are game breaking.

I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to host/use a private server, as long as you don't use the original server-side code or charge/pay money for it (excluding voluntary donations or in game content that's totally original to that server)

It is against the ToS, though. So as long as you don't break the above rules, the worst that can happen is you get banned from Battle.net.

I think Bliz says it is illegal to host a private server stating that their assets are being used(I dont disagree with that) and apparently bliz is going after people streaming on twitch and posting VODs to youtube. I would be slightly worried about the ToS and getting banned from battle.net but I havent used the account in years and would not even condenser going back unless I could get the Vanilla or BC wow experince. 

 

So far my NE druid is lvl 13 and I did the cool bear form quest and looking forward to the aquatic form quest in a couple of lvls. I have noticed some things that arent quite right but i think they are little things. For example on the bear form quest you are suppose to have to talk to he moonkin after you kill him but I got the completion for the quest for just killing him. The mage blink is strange I think, I remember the mage disappearing and then reappearing but on Nostalrius the mage just moves quickly for a very short period of time. EDIT: I just watched a human mage blink and it looked right, the mage that I saw that it looked strange on was a gnome so maybe there is a problem on gnomes or I am seeing things, both are very possible...
