Weird HDMI Audio Issue

My brother is having a  weird issue with his sound.

 

Sometimes the audio doesn't  come out of his tv when using HDMI even though the sound mixer is saying there is sound and the only way to get it to work is to unplug the HDMI cable from his graphics card and plug it back in.

 

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue?
