I want to clone one partition on my HDD to an SSD (the Windows partition)... I'm NOT reinstalling Windows. How do I do this? Can I just copy all of the files on the partition to my SSD?

I used a program called Reflect to clone my gf's hard drive to a new SSD.

Worked well, and seemed to have much more capability than just that.

Oh, and I got some weird errors when trying to copy over the partitions due to the sizing of things. You may have to shrink your windows partition using 3rd party software in order to get it to be the correct size.

After this, have both of the drives hooked up and you should be able to select which partitions to take from one drive and clone to the other. Drag and drop the partitions.

use an ubuntu livecd and open up gparted

after you create the partition table, just right click on the source and copy, then right click on the destination and paste

after that you'll need to reinstall the bootloader to the new drive, but it's pretty trivial

Hey faissaloo,

I wouldn't clone the boot partition from a HDD to a SSD since that involves a good amount of risk. Cloning a HDD to a SSD will most probably cause the SSD to be treated as a HDD and thus important features such as TRIM won't be enabled which might shorted the SSD's life. I would suggest that you look into system image recovery. You can create a system image of your boot partition and restore it via a system repair drive on your new drive. This way you would avoid most compatibility issues. The safest way is to clean install the OS, but you apparently want to avoid that. Here's some more info on system image restore: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/restore-computer-from-system-image-backup#1TC=windows-7
