why do you need to have the sniper RAM? it surpasses the Haswell MAX voltage. Get something less expensive. There is no real benefit to high speed RAM in gaming and the only point en which it helps is with video rendering and editing. Watch this:

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

Get a cheaper mobo, an i5 4690K, 8GB of ram (DDR3-1600, no need to go further) unless you run virtual machine and dozens of chrome tabs, and maybe ditch that ssd and go for combo 250GB ssd + 1TB hdd

All those savings can probably get you a GTX980

I think its a really good build actually.  I wouldn't downgrade the RAM.  It's not that much more than the slow RAM, and while there might not be much benefit today, the benefit will start to show up over the next couple of years.  Your 850 EVO is an excellent choice.

All of those parts are pretty high end.  Very nice indeed.  Do it!

If i go with slower ram should i stay at 16gb or get 32gb?

And also would yall recommend a single gtx980? or Dual gtx970's in sli ?

You could honestly get away with just 8gb of ram without issue and save $50.

If you can afford it go with the single 980. SLI 970 may beat a 980 in performance now but you'll be stuck here without option to add a card down the road. Getting one 980 allows for you to add a 2nd one when performance is needed. I made a couple adjustments to balance out your build a bit and kept the budget a bit over $1,600 like your original build

  • dropped you to a i5-4690k, no need for i7 in gaming
  • Changed you to a Kraken x41, mounts perfectly in the H440 exhaust port in a push/pull setup
  • changed the motherboard, maximus Hero for a MSI Gaming 5 (Asus Z97-A would be comparable if you like Asus). The extra cost here isn't worth it for the Hero
  • changed the RAM to a 2133 8gb set that meets the 1.55v max of the intel memory controller, just have to enable XMP in the bios to run at full speed
  • Upgraded you to a MSI GTX 980 with the savings on the three above changes, you'll see much improved game performance for your money
  • Just personal preference here, but the Aerocool DS Led fans are killer in the H440. Have two 140mm in the build in my sig and love it
