I'm replacing my CPU, RAM and motherboard and I just wanna check if everything is compatible and balanced since this is my first time building a PC (up untill now I've only replaced some parts).

Motherboard:

RAM:

CPU:

http://ark.intel.com/products/80910/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1231-v3-8M-Cache-3_40-GHz

Stuff that I already have:

- a large enough PC case

- seasonic s12 II PSU

- gtx 660 ti

- a SSD and a HDD

I went with a z97 motherboard because apparently you can still raise Xeon's FSB, even though the multiplier is locked so I figured I might as well get a mild OC for 10€ more.

The memory you have picked out is a SODIMM, which is used in laptops. You're going to want ordinary 240-pin DDR3 DIMMs, ideally 1866 MHz and CAS 9 or better:

That's kind of an ultra-powerful CPU to still be using a somewhat pedestrian GTX 660 Ti, so I don't know that I'd call it "balanced." That's not really a problem, though, and the rest of the system looks fine to me.

I'll be gaming a bit, and I've also enrolled on a miltimedia production university so I suspect I'll need to render some stuff.

Okay. If you're going to be gaming you'll really want to upgrade from the 660Ti.

Sig under construction.

Is this one fine?

I know it's not 1866Mhz, but it's much cheaper than any 1866Mhz they have avaliable in their shop.

Sure, that's compatible. I suggested 1866 MHz and CAS 9 because that's generally agreed to be the current sweet spot between performance with minimal added cost. Practically speaking, RAM speed might very marginally affect rendering performance and will be completely meaningless in games, so it's not really an enormous worry.

What you've linked shows a single 4 GB stick initially. If you wanted the same product in a 2x8 GB kit, that's $108 and only about ~$15 away from the cheaper 1866 MHz kits I linked. You may also find some better sales if you look around on PC Part Picker or something.

yeah I'll buy 2 of those, so that will make it 8GB. The thing is the additional postage costs are bigger than the money I save if I buy outside the country so I can't really order from part picker.

Everything else is fine then?

Thanks for all the answers.
