Case and PSU Issue

LIGISTX

Currently I'm running a Antec P182, and have had a i7 920 running pretty hard since it came out. When the Corsair H50 came out, I jump on that, and its been going hard ever since. Recently I decided to drop an Antec Kuhler 620 on my GTX 470, which has resulted in amazing GPU temps, but unfortunately has resulted in a serious PSU cooling issue. Seeing as this case wasn't made with radiators of any sort in mind, I wasn't able to mount the antec 620 rad in a good location for exhaust, so for now it ended up in front of the PSU fan... Pushing all of my gtx 470 heat right at my Corsair TX750.

I called corsair and they seem to think, although isn't anywhere near ideal, might not be a huge problem as my video card isn't putting out too much heat at the moment (max is about 49c with a healthy overclock). Issue is, its winter! Once summer rolls around, the ambients will climb, and it will start to get toasty in there. Also, I want to push some more volts through my gtx 470, which will only make that heat and power draw increase tremendously.

My issue, what case to buy?!?! I love the idea of the Corsair 800D, although it isn't cheap. In a few years I would like to set up a full custom loop, which makes the 900D worth waiting for. Also, I believe either of these cases would work well for me now, as they should allow for my dual 120's to be mounted at the top. They are ridiculously expensive though, which leaves me thinking maybe there is something just as good for cheaper, or better for the same price?

I want the ability for good cable management, room for a solid custom loop one day (hopefully a triple or quad 120/140) but also like having a quiet system. Granted running fans at low RPM helps this, but coming from my P182 which is pretty quiet, the 900D might be really loud with all of its intake and exhaust fans.

Sorry for the long post, and happy Linus made a forum!

Hello!!

Well 800D it's very future proof, also the TJ07-11 is good. Or use a dremmel and make some holes on the bottom of the case also put some rubbers for standoff to let the PSU breath

I hope my reply bring you up some ideas. See you next time.

Regards,

Toxic

I'd suggest waiting and saving up for a 900D, looks fantastic, and plenty of water cooling potential in the case, with enough space to water cool a HOUSE!! LOL, but seriously its great case

The 900D looks like a monster in Linus' video, it thats the way you want to go, I say go for it.. Personally I think its a bit TOO much, the 800D would be my choise and also has good options for custom watercooling...

Well, problem is I can't really do much in terms of adding cooling for the PSU. Well I could drill holes through the bottom of my case, but I like this case too much to do that. I have done fan grill delete mods and such, but that didn't compromise the case itself, just lets intakes and exhausts breath better. The TJ07 is pretty sweet, but the corsair cases just look nicer to me I think. Also, Toxic, why do you say the 800 isn't future proof? What part about it isn't future proof?

Yea I agree with the 900 being more than needed. It looks amazing for a crazy water cooling setup, but there is a point that the case goes beyond overkill, which the 900 might be. I think the TJ07 might be worth looking into. Any other suggestions?

Actually, after looking around some, and thinking about the huge price on the 800d and 900d, maybe the 650d is a more realistic option for me. Since I don't plan on water cooling for a few years anyways... Anyone have anything bad to say about 650D's?

After a lot more research, I think I have actually settle on something different all together. Fractal Define XL R2 once it hits in a few weeks hopefully.

49C under load, I presume? In that case it's perfectly fine, anything under 70C shouldn't drastically affect the longevity of the card. As for the power supply, I don't think that should be too much of an issue either, given it would be pulling air from the bottom of the case, independent of the other components. What's making you worried that it's overheating and such?

If you do want to upgrade to custom loops and such then upgrading would definitely give more flexibility, but I don't think it would be worth upgrading just because of thermal problems.

The problem is the GPU rad is right in front of my power supply. I havn't taken a great picture yet, but ill post what I have and you will see what I'm saying. Its not the GPU that is the issue, 49c at 830 core and 1950 ram is FINE for a gtx 470, but all of that core heat is going right into my PSU which is a lot more heat than I am happy with it having to deal with.
