CS:GO Operation Question

Okay, so I've seen a few operation coins and stuff like that, but now I'm wondering if you can buy previous operation passes (like Breakout or Vanguard et cetera) and still complete the missions. If you can, then great, but if not, do the operations like expire after awhile or something? I'm just debating whether or not to grab the passes, or if buying them would be a complete waste...
