oh for 1080p and games like upcoming battlefield 3 and also some smaller indie titles just need to be able to stream/ record also will be using cad in small amounts

Not really worth it if you don't game a lot, especially when playing indies.

Yeah just keep the 280. When the new AMD lineup launches you should ask yourself this question again.

is the 970 a big enough upgrade from r9 280?

 

Upgrade your CPU/Mobo to an i5, the FX series is poor.
