Galaxy S4 overheat and battery drain

Hello again wonderful people of the forums,

 

My family just got new smartphones in december(christmas gift) and my mom got a samsung galaxy s4. However, i put in an SD card, and it ran into really bad battery drain and overheating issues, to the point the phone was to hot to hold. I procedded to dismount the SD card, and that fixed the problem... for awhile. The issue is now arising again. Any possible solutions? She is not a heavy user of the phone, so it is not due to that. She keeps the phone in her purse. The battery is draining at an alarming rate in addition to the device becoming overly warm. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine does the same thing, no idea why. I do have an SD Card mounted. Following this thread.

Screw troubleshooting the phone, RMA it or get the provider to replace.

 

Alternatively, check the Settings app to see what is causing the battery drain. As far as heat, it could be copious amounts of idle processes, or it could be faulty hardware. I'd take the lazy way out and RMA it.

Same thing happens to me.  Really shitty.

I think try lowering the brightness to minimum and also check the battery if it is not good on condition and also don't use while charging

I tried that. Battery is basically new, so not an issue there.

have you tried that it is completely off and it is still hot?

No when turning fully off it cools down, but turn it back on and it doesn't take long to start doing the same thing. Do you think a factory reset would help at all?
