I was working on my computer and all of a sudden the gpu fan ramped up to 100% and my screen went black. I took off the side panel and it rebooted successfully, however the issue repeated itself 10 minutes afterwards. I then left it alone for an hour and it worked fine with the side panel on and off. Does anybody know why this is happening or how I can fix it?

My specs:

CPU: i5-4950

CPU cooler: Stock Intel cooler

Motherboard: Asrock z97 anniversary

PSU: Roswill 650w 80 Plus Gold

Gpu:  Asus Directcu II R9 290

Case: NZXT Source 530

Yes it is. I only built the system a few months ago.

Just because you built it a few months ago doesn't mean it's dust free. I take mine apart every month and have to dust it and at that point it's already VERY dusty.

I just cleaned it using compressed air and the next time I started it it had the same issue.

Is it overclocked? If so did you change the voltage? Also when you reply make sure you quote the person :)

Sorry about that I'm new around these parts :) . No, it's not overclocked at this time.

Hmm. Try the GPU on another motherboard if you can, or a different GPU if you can.
