Thermal compound do matter!

just changed the thermal paste on my cpu, this is the first time that I do something intense like that with my pc the hardest thing that I ever done was installing a new hard drive my max temp for the cpu was 95 (pretty old dual core) and now it does not exceed 65 on rendering. I feel so happy  I'm proud of my self

 

the temp might be a little high for you but for an old dual core with Intel stock fan it's fine

Its more than likely due to bad contact with the cooler. Thermal paste wont make that much of a difference (unless there was none?)

Well it's likely that the old paste dried up enough to where it no longer conducted heat properly.

That's the kind of temperature difference you would expect from not using thermal paste vs using some. Which thermal paste you use doesn't matter much, as long as you do use some.

My original thermal paste was about 2-3ish years old and that was the driest thing i've ever seen.

Better off with using mustard.

The only difference I've ever seen it make was with my mom's Phenom 511 a use it was using like 6 year old thermal paste from the stock AMD heatsink.

I have just started to get into this computer stuff if I knew this before I would have replaced the thermal paste after every 6 months
