Here is the situation.

My girlfriends phone, a nexus 4 is having some touch screen problems( i have the fix). i need to root the phone and it will clear everything including account info.

but the phone/Google account has 2 factor auth enabled. so anytime she tries to log in to a computer or a phone using her Google account, it sends a verification code to her phone number.

its was all good until she changed her phone number(SIM) with out changing the security settings. so now its like we are stuck in a loop. and the old number is not working any more(disconnected, and not sure if we can get it working again)

I don't have physical access to her Phone. she lives in a different country. she have access to a PC, but its not hers. she is not already logged in.

she can understand technical instructions even though she is not a expert geek.

Here is what i need.

How to change the security settings regarding the 2-factor auth, using the phone it self, or how to get codes to use later using the phone. remember we can not log in to her google account anywhere else.

any ideas?

only idea i have is the Security code option thats in Google settings app on the phone. but it changes every time i open that. so i have no idea how its supposed to work?

can we use it to log in when the verification code is required?

that is where the problem is... we cant get the codes because its going to a disconnected number, since we dont have a code we cant change the phone number.

Do you have any access to a machine already logged in? You're able to get to the 2fa settings without another 2fa code, if you've already logged into Google.

If not: This is why you should have copied the emergency code. Your only option is to contact Google support.
