I'm planning to add a SSD to my gaming rig and I'm stuck between a few options.

  • Samsung 840 EVO
  • Intel 730 Series
  • Intel 530 Series

I can get Samsung stuff extremely cheap, since I live in South Korea, but I heard Intel's SSDs have awesome performance and solid reliability. Please help me choose!

Why you're choosing between outdated SSDs I would have no idea. Samsung 850 Evo.

Intel's SSD is fast indeed, but Samsung 840 EVO is fast as well. Go with Samsung 840 EVO because it's very cheap (South Korea) besides it's almost as fast as Intel's SSD.

SSD's Specs:

Because I don't need the latest technology.

Official specs are quite useless, you should look at benchmarks instead. Besides, the 840 Evo has a problem with performance degradation. And the Intel 530 is outdated while the Intel 730 tends to be overpriced.

Just so you are aware the 850 EVO 500GB is on sale on Newegg for $171 with offer code EMCARAT22 (which is cheaper than I have ever seen an SSD of that caliber.  Hope this helps!

Newegg doesn't ship internationally, unfortunately  :(

^ Or see benchmark. Besides seeing specs can take a lot of time....

Because I don't need the latest technology.

The thing is, price is nearly the same.
