Hi Everyone! I'm new to these forums and Linus' videos altogether, I'm mad that I hadn't discovered either sooner because they are both really awesome!  I'm looking for a little bit of help on a new system i'm looking to build by the end of the summer.  It'll be the first computer I actually build myself, I'm pretty excited to do this, because until now I have unfortunately relied on pre-build dell computers.

Budget:  My budget for this build is between $1200 and $1350.  I'm in the United States, I've been trying to hold out as long as I can to see if any good deals pop up at of the major online retailers.  I was pretty mad at myself for missing out on some of the good combo deals newegg had running shortly after the Haswell CPU's were released.

Aim: This will be used as a gaming machine primarily, I'm starting to gravitate more towards PC gaming these days and would just like a machine I could count on to last for a number of years. I, like most people, am interested in playing some of the newer titles due out in the coming months that require somewhat good hardware to run comfortably.  It will also be used for general productivity purposes for my college work, but that won't be anything too intensive.

Peripherals: The only peripheral I will need to purchase with this machine is an operating system, I'm thinking of just going with Windows 8.

Why are you upgrading? Coming from the first generation of intel core processors, I felt this would be a good opportunity for me to learn how to build my own system.  I thought about making the switch when Ivy Bridge went live, but decided to wait just a little longer since most of what I was doing with my current computer (a pre-built Ibuypower) was working just fine.

- Since this is somewhat new territory to me and I'm still very much in the learning stages of computer components and assembly, I'm looking for some feedback on the preliminary build I put together myself.  This list was composed basically just from favorable product reviews on Linus' and Tek Syndicate's channel.  I tried my best not to cut corners anywhere while still staying in the confines of my budget.  I may have chosen some components that are maybe a tad overkill for what i'm looking to do.    I'll post my pcpartpicker list in this thread so you guys can see where I'm currently at.  Thank you so much for reading, and I look forward to continue posting around these forums!

Your build looks good. Everything compatible and is good for your budget. Only thing I can think of is holding out until October to see how the ADM cards perform but other than that, you're good to go.

Hello, welcome to the forum!

You picked some pretty nice parts, everything looks good. You don't necessarily need such an expensive motherboard, since it won't add much to the rest of the parts. You could get a cheaper one and maybe get a bigger SSD, however if it's fine if you want to keep it for future upgrades.

Are you planning on overclocking? Also if you are really focused on strictly gaming performance you might be able to squeeze a 780 in there if you go with an ivy bridge platform. There's a huge performance jump between the 770 and 780.

Thanks for the welcome! While I have no experience overclocking, I wanted to get the "K" processor and some other components that would allow me to once I become more familiar with it.  I'm not exactly looking to purchase all of this until mid august so I'm sure i'll have some time to implement some new parts, I would have so loved to add a 780, but that price point scared me away a little bit.  I'll do a new build on an ivy bridge platform to see if i can make it work.  Thanks so much for the quick replies!!!

Take a look at this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1eOw9

I put together an ivy bridge system with a 780 for you, it's a tiny bit over your budget however it will give you amazing performance, you can definitely handle anything with that card. I also didn't put an HDD in there, however that's possibly the easiest thing to upgrade and you can just add one whenever you have an extra buck to spend. I also made sure to get a board that was SLI compatible, so you have plenty of room for upgrades in the future. What do you think?

Wow Cacao! I love that build!  I'm going to strongly consider going this route, it would most likely offer me much better gaming performance while not sacrificing much power elsewhere.  Thanks you so much for taking the time to put this together for me!!

I'm glad you like it! It's definitely the best you can get for the money without sacrificing anything. Let us know if you have anymore questions :)
