So during the last day of my vacation, i broke my ipad 2 screen (i dropped my laptop charger and the metal AC plugs hit it). about 5-6 cracks across the screen and powdered glass at impact zone. the machine still works but its dangerous with all the glass shattered (I tried removing it, it just cracked more)

OPTIONS:

1) I can give it for apple to fix, but the repairs are extremely overpriced (Around $150-$200).

2) Take it to third party places (if you live in the toronto, its Pmall) and hope for the best. The problem is ipad screens are glued. if i take it there it might be cheaper but risk killing the ipad all together.

3) Get a ipad mini. It's roughly $320 but, It is education discount season and I can get a $50 discount and an app gift card. problem is, its still pretty expensive, and i feel like the moment I buy it, the ipad mini 2 will release.

No idea what to do. I just blew $1.3K on the vacation, and entering uni next year, I can afford all the options but prefer not to.

Buy a cheaper and a better android tablet.

While this is an option, the OP might not want an Android tablet. The only place I would trust to get the new models of ipads fixed is at Apple. Like you said everything is glued these days so it's hard to fix things without damaging the product.

If you want the ipad mini, then buy it now with the edu discount, but if you're buying it because it's cheaper than the regular ipad then don't.  Also you can sell the cracked ipad and use tht money towards your purchase

The Nexus 7's screen is higher resolution though, and it has Gorilla Glass. Smaller though.

Pretty sure it is more powerful too. Keep in mind that the iPad 2 is pretty old.

The A5 Processor will beat the Tegra 3, ive used android tablets they're slow and laggy, but my uncles ipad 2 is silky smooth still. I guess the nexus 7 has a better screen, but they're not in the same category tbh, it should be ipad mini vs nexus 7...

But iPad dominates anyway, everyone I know or see has an iPad, ive never seen anyone hold an android tablet

Also more apps, better quality

The slowness is an issue with RAM, not the CPU. iOS uses ~512MB of RAM while Android uses ~1GB of RAM, on average.
