vga mobo ram problem

Go to solution Solved by target39,

So, I have a old motherboard, asus p5vd2-vm with an intel pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 3 gigs of ddr2 ram at 333 mhz

I was looking today through the bios and I found a option to change the ram speed. There were 3 options: 333mhz, 480mhz and 660mhz. I have two sticks(both kingmax and they can run at 800mhz (this says on the sticks))

So... i choosed the third option(660) and saved everything. I didn't made any other changes but when the pc restarted to apply the changes the screen detected no signal. I turned on the speakers to see if it boots but it didn't.

I don't have any other screen

my video card is an hd5670

So, what can i do?

Would it help if i would reset the cmos by disconnecting the bios battery(if I will find it)?

Sorry for my writing, i'm using the phone

Please help me. I'm really desperate

Does your RAM stick say DDR2-800? Because this means it can only run at 400mhz. With DDR RAM, you double the speed in mhz to get the DDR speed.  This means DDR3-1600 is actually running at 800mhz, DDR3-2400 at 1200mhz, and so on. 660mhz would have the RAM at DDR2-1320, which is not what you would have thought.

Clear the CMOS and keep the RAM settings the way they are at default.

Removing the battery would probably be the first step, but odd that the computer won't boot with rated specs

What do you mean with “rated specs“

You mean stock speeds?

It's actually not odd at all from what I understand. By selecting 660mhz, he was essentially trying to overclock his RAM to DDR2-1320, which obviously failed, disallowing the system to boot. All he needs to do is get it back to 400mhz or lower, to get the rated DDR2-800 which he should be running.

Yes at stock speeds, but as ^ said because you have ddr memory the speed, for example 1333 is couple the actual clock speed of 666,5. So maybe your mobo does not shows the actual clock speed, and thus, you should set it at 400mhz or as close as possible

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum

yeah, I just realized that, I was confused because some mobos show the ddr-speed so 800 in the bios would actually be 400mhz
