CPU boosting to 5ghz

Go to solution Solved by Voldy21,

False alarm

post-184071-0-69348400-1428034723.png

I have my cpu set to 4.1 ghz at 1.245 core voltage on static. The voltage isn't going any higher than that. I go on task manager for my computer and I find that it's going up to speeds of 5.1 ghz. I don't know why it's doing that or if that's harmful to my cpu.

This is what it looks like when I use the stress test tool on Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.

Use AIDA64 to stress, and watch the voltages.  Also, how are temperatures?

In Windows 8, there is a bug with Task Manager that reports clock speeds higher than they actually are. This is a result of virtualization be enabled in the BIOS.

crank the voltage, and if you won the silicon lottery, its possible

It's weird because I tried to crank up the voltage before and do a real overclock but it would have taken me to put the voltage as 1.28 to get 4.2 ghz so I left it as 4.1. I don't know what's going on. The clock speed I set this as was set to 4.1 in the bios and the core voltage was 1.245.

Actually, I think it's a glitch with task manager because HMWmonitor is saying that it's only 4.1 ghz.

I think this might be possible...Could be a glitch...

It's a known issue with Windows 8, and if you turn virtualiztion off it will report normal clock speeds.

I honestly don't use Task Manager to monitor CPU usage as the program I use to watch my temps has the frequency, temp, and utilization percentage.
