Partitioning two C drives?

I'm building a PC for my brother, and I'll be reusing my old HDD. I cleaned the disk, and I'm trying to reformat it. I'm not sure if I should leave it unassigned since it won't be in my system, or if I should assign it to C. Of course, I'll be removing the drive before I shutdown. So, the question is, should I assign it to C or leave it unassigned until I install Windows 8 on it? (assuming Windows does that upon install) Thanks!

Is he getting a whole new drive? If so put the OS on the new drive and use the old drive for games unless the old one is an SSD

The old HDD will be used as the system drive, no other drives will be in the new PC.

Then just leave it unassigned as it has nothing on it unless you want to put windows on there now so you don't have to bother with it later.
