Hi, I am trying to build a good 4k gaming computer after watching LinusTechTips guide (edited) on how to build a generally sufficient one. What do you think of these parts concerning CPU Motherboard RAM and GPU? I am also curious if this is either overkill or "underkill" for a quality 4k gaming experience.

THANKS!!  :D

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

MotherBoard: Asus Maximus VI Formula ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Graphics Card(s): (2)Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card (2-Way SLI)

You can do most stuff at 4K and good settings anf FPS, but watch out with the 970 3.5gb VRAM issue at 4k you can easily max it out.

I would get a single 980 instead of the SLI 970's because the 970's have the "VRAM" issues and might be unstable at 4K

But a single 980 isn't enough for AAA titles at 4k

Change the gpu to a 295x2, it will likely perform better

I would say this might be your best bet, you should watch this vid,

Yeah, 4k is where the vram issues would kick in. One single 980 or heck even an 780 ti from ebay would do.

The time you enjoy wasting, is not wasted time.

Two 970's will always be better than a 980 even at 4k. The vram is not remotely as bad as it was blown up to be. You can check out jays 2 cents video to see all the latest games still ran fine with 3.5gb except shadow of mordor because ultra textures requires 6gb anyway.

I wasn't trying to make it seem bad that's why I put vram in " "

But I thought it did do bad in higher res guess I was wrong

780ti has 3GB vram, 970 has 4GB or 3.5GB, so a 970 would have less vram issues than a 780ti.

Also, the 970 vram issue doesn't really come into effect in most scenarios unless you're playing games like SoM maxed out, where you won't be getting 60fps anyways.

Why are you comparing a FTW SLI to a reference 295x2?

Because they are around the same price

And look at the 780ti (Yes, because I only trust Anandtech.com and LTT for benchmarks) , it has higher frame rates then the 970, about 3 or 4 more frames. When 780ti sli against 295x2, the 295x2 wins/looses by 2 frames

No, the 295x2 is $20 cheaper

What part of around do you not get? $20 is around

Everyone has a different meaning of around. I am sorry not to share your meaning of around. I personally think around is about $10 more or less, I may not have as much money to waste on my computer as you do.

First off all,8 gigs of ram should be enough for gaming. 16 gigs if you are a tab whore in your browser or you like running heavy applications in the background. Second of all, the formula ia totally unnecessary. A z97 Hero would perform just as well and would simply not have useless utilities. With all that money, I would say about 500$ you could buy 2 980 rather than 2 970s which will be much better at 4k since of better compute and of course, the entire 4 GB of ram runming at full speed
