7.1 surround headset questions

Im looking at buying the Sennheiser pc 363d and I also plan on getting the asus xonar essence stx. I understand that the pc 363d has the 7.1 surround usb plug in, however Id like to plug the headset into the xonar essence because ive read that it would produce better sound quality and the card is aimed at headset users to my understanding. If I want the 7.1 surround would I have to get the xonar essence 2 or does the essence 1 have 7.1?  Also any and all suggestion for a better solution are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can enable surround in any headset with free Razer surround software. You do not need an expensive sound card (or likely any at all) for these headphones. The stx would be a waste of money.

I've tried all the surround options on STX personally and I felt Razer Surround was much better.
