Ok so im looking at getting a synology nas drive that bit is almost for certain my work has one and the feature set if outstanding for the price.

But i am also looking at what drives i should populate it with i was thinking to put some barracudas in it since i trust them they have done me well over the years but i see alot of WD red hype is there much difference between them for a nas use case ?

i was looking for maybe 2x2tb or 2x3tb the difference in price is about £20 per drive which seems like alot..

I've got 2x2tb reds in my nas and in the two years of having them I haven't seen any degradation or signs of RMA, I looked but was put off seagate when my paps pc died dramatically (his hdd was a year old. It span up and made techno noises then died)

Up to you really, I pushed and I haven't had issues.

We run WD Reds in all 3 of the NAS servers at work, one of which is a synology rackmount NAS.  No issues whatsoever with it and the AD integration is actually really good compared to a lot of other NAS systems I've come across.

We have had one DOA but they ship you out a new drive before they have even received your old one so it wasn't an issue.  Their RMA process is really easy to use and quick so you can't ask for much more.

Just to throw in for seagate, I have 24x 3tb seagate drives.  They were are still are the cheapest ones on the market.  I have moved between multiple enclosures, don't do any kind of fancy care for them.

I have had 8 since they first came to market, 8 are about 2 years old, and the last 8 are about a year.  None have died on me.  Yet.

But, I also don't care if one does, I can recover the lost data or just reacquire it.

As a comparison, I had one of my 5 toshiba drives die within a few days of getting it, but no issues with RMA.  And I have had 7 WD drives die on me since I started buying computer parts 15 years ago, also no RMA issues.  I don't buy WD anymore.
