Hello, I am new to this forum as some may have noticed. Here's my spiel.

I built my first PC this January (3570K, P8Z77-V LX, ASUS GTX 660 Ti, 8Gb Corsair Vengeance RAM, 250Gb Samsung 840 SSD, 750Gb WD Black HDD, TX650W PSU, Corsiar 300R) and it works great and everything and even though this may seem early, I'm just starting to have some thoughts about the next step.

I'm planning on upgrading/re-building after I graduate high school (I'm 15 and going into 10th grade, so two years) and I want some advice on just that, whether I should upgrade or re-build.

I'm leaning towards completely restarting from scratch (maybe salvage SSD), but I want to know if there is any reason I'd want to just upgrade my current build (I don't know of advantages/disadvantages since I'm so new to this). My thought process was that it would be better to start over since new architecture and inability to find compatible parts would render my PC incompatible to performance computing (Gaming more, I'm a gamer) 2 years down the road, so getting in with all the new goodies would be the best route. However, upgrading my current rig (SLi config, upgrade processor?, RAM, etc.) would allow me to make changes within 1 year which would allow me to have a better performing PC for more than 2 years instead of having a lower-end PC about 1 1/2 years from now by not upgrading. Another advantage that a new build would bring is that I could do it in a smaller form factor to make the PC easier to move to-and-from college.

Just looking for recommendations on how I should probably go about this. Obviously, no specific specifications, just which route would be the most beneficial financially and for my computer ($500 in savings which will grow over next 2 years, and if I start fresh, I can sell my current rig). Thanks in advance :)

I would save and rebuild. No one knows what kind of great tech will be available in 2 years, so can't really speculate.

CPU: i5 4670k • Cooler: Corsair H100i • Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER • RAM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x 8GB • Storage: Samsung 840 250GB SSD, 2x WD Red 3TB • GPU: EVGA GTX 780 3GB • PSU: Corsair RM750W • Case: Corsair 750D • Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 (I actually use the thing for productivity/media buttons) • Keyboard: Ducky Shine 3 w/ Browns - Green LED • Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27" 2560 x 1440, ASUS PB238Q 23" 1920x1080 • Lighting: 2m NZXT Sleeved Blue LED Strip • pcpartpicker.com/p/3cHfZ

Save up. We'll see. My guess is that the 3570k will still be going strong 2 years down the road.
