Hello everyone,

This is my first time building a computer from scratch and would like some recommendations and insight on my project.

Here is what I plan on getting:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bmNqgs

With this setup I am planning on playing games such as Battlefield 4, Skyrim, GTA V (when released), CS:GO, LOL and a variety of others. 1440p is what I will be fine with, not sure if the current setup is able to go higher than that.

I also plan to buy another Gigabyte G1 GTX 980 in the future and do a water cooling loop later on.

I just have a couple of questions:

Will the i5 processor be sufficient for what I am trying to do?

- It will mainly be a gaming computer with the occasional work productivity here and there such as Word, PowerPoint, online research, and such.

If I buy one large SSD, such as 1TB, for my operating system can I still load games and files on it without affecting the speed and performance?

- I would like to stay away from the HDD due to noise. I am also willing to buy a smaller SSD (120gb) and dedicate that one for OS and buy a 500gb+ SSD for files and games.

In what order should I buy these products?

- I do not know where to start, if someone could please list the parts in the order I should buy them that would be great. I plan on buying one at a time every so often not all at once.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the motherboard I am using?

- I plan on running an Ethernet cable to my computer eventually. In the meantime I plan to use my wifi as a temporary solution. Also plan on buying another GTX 980.

Any recommendations on a monitor?

- I am not sure where to go with this one. I heard about GSync and how it is able to produce smoother gameplay. The Asus PG278Q looks nice, however I am not sure if there is anything out there that is more cost effective. Maybe something within the $500 range?

Thank you for taking the time to read through this and I look forward to hearing the responses!

This look fine, i like gigabyte ud5 or a asus mb. Test your mice and keyboard before you buy to make sure you like them. In not sure about onboard wifi, to each their own though. Corsair make good stuff but you can find better at better prices, that being said the 750d is nice. I would still go will phanteks. Did you want us to cut out stuff or change parts to make it cheaper? What kind of research, number crunching or Wikipedia stuff?

1.) Buy your parts all at once

2.) Dont buy a extremely large SSD like a 1tb. They are expensive and putting games and other things that arent either you OS or work applications is useless. Its not noticeable the diffrence.

3.) Downgrade your SSD to a 250gb. If your using your computer as you say you wont need 500gb

4.) Your CPU is a good CPU and it will be fine for what your doing.

Other than that your build is solid. Good choices.

Welcome to the forums!

That looks like a pretty monster build.

Will the i5 processor be sufficient for what I am trying to do?

Yes, plenty to run what your doing.

If I buy one large SSD, such as 1TB, for my operating system can I still load games and files on it without affecting the speed and performance?

Yes, although 1TB SSDs are way overkill. I suggest just getting a 240 SSD for your OS/multiple games. Then add a low 5400 rpm HDD.

In what order should I buy these products?

No particular order, although I suggest ordering everything at once when you definitely have the money. Worst thing that can happen is being halfway though ordering parts and not being able to complete your system.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the motherboard I am using?

Z97 Pro is a very nice board. Room for SLI-expansion in the future plus built in wifi.

Any recommendations on a monitor?

Choose any that you personally like, I think it helps to see them in person (like at BestBuy).

This overall looks like a really solid build. Not too shabby at all for a first time build... *murmurs something about being broke*

@blackadder

I have looked at other cases such as phanteks enthoo pro and I am still leaning to Corsair's larger side panel window due to some future water cooling I plan on doing. As for changing parts if you could recommended a part that is cheaper but still provides strong performance I will consider changing them.

the only thing that will drop the price by a good bit is the motherboard, 150 usd to me is the sweet spot. Lots of features you may not use in a board. Im on my phone so i cant link stuff, im sure someone else will. I would get a board w/o wifi one with the fan headets and sata ports you need like really need are you going to have 6 hard drives? Most don't you might. Asus hero is slightly cheaper and a great board i hear still 200usd... Asus does have great fan software other than that all the same to me. pick one of the big manufacturers and youll be fine.

Yes, I see that buying the parts all at once will be a better idea now. That would be terrible not being able to complete the build.

As for the SSD I will be downgrading to a smaller size. I know the WD Black runs at 7200rpm perhaps the WD Green (5400rpm) will be a better choice then?

I have spent quite a bit of time researching and watching videos on all of the products I have put together. I am glad I have gotten some input so far from all of you! Thank you so much!

I will definitely not be using 6 hard drives. I will look into the Asus Hero as you suggested. Thank you!

at my pc now, a long with the hero, these should be atx boards with sli support.

i have the gigabyte one at this price i feel like its a steal, i have pics in profile with a build, really im sure you can find most these z97 motherboards in the galleys if you ever wanted to get a better idea what completed builds look like.

You dont need that much RAM since u arent doing any video rendering and games rarely use that much ram

Other than that your rig is pretty good

Doesnt really matter what order you buy the parts in. You shouldnt put your computer together anyway until all the parts arrive.

the 4690k is sufficient enough for any game. i7 is used for people who do video rendering more than gamers.

Im so patriotic, I piss red white and blue. My doctor told me it was pancreatic cancer, I told him to SHUT HIS COMMIE MOUTH.
